I shot Tony’s sister’s wedding a couple years ago. So when Caitrin and Tony came to see me about their wedding I was so excited to get to have the opportunity to be part of another one of their family’s most memorable moments in life. Tony and Caitrin are a great couple and a lot of fun! They got married at the Saybrook Point Inn in Old Saybrook CT. It was a beautiful day! Here are a bunch of my favorites from the day!!!

Her dress was simple and elegant…LOVED it!

the flowers:

rings…

walkin’ the aisle!

they poured sand in a bottle together instead of the usual unity candle…

I LOVE shooting details!

a traditional toast made for Tony’s late father, who was with them that night in spirit!

I am so happy for Tony and Caitrin and the rest of the Piscetello family!

Off Camera Lighting for Receptions…
July 18, 2008, 2:28

Someone has asked me about my off camera lighting set up that I use for receptions so this post is about just that!

First off, I by no means can take any credit in thinking up the idea…as it is something that I had researched from other’s blogs and talked about with some local photographers from time and time again. Finally I am putting it to use. I originally noticed the lighting on Jessica Claire’s blog last year and she had posted a whole entry on how she sets it up…so to alleviate you the pain of researching it yourself in her older posts…I will just relay what I do in this post…

You will need 2 Pocket Wizards…yes there are cheaper versions out there…but seriously, if you go cheap you get cheap and when you are working a wedding where clients are paying you, you need the good stuff! So Pocket Wizards are reliable and just down right cool.

Then you will need a second flash (always good to have backup!) and set the flash to manual…

I use an Impact lightstand with an extra small Photoflex Soft Box on it to diffuse the light. (can buy it as a kit at BandH for pretty cheap…the pocket wizards are what you want to spend the mula on though)

I set it up by the DJ or Band so it is out of the way but in a good spot for me…and I shoot away! You have to play with it a little before getting used to it…but it is always good to experiment and try out new stuff when you have some more relaxed time at the reception…The result is some very nice directional lighting, rim lighting, and of course, some flair too!

Good luck!!!

The final result…

Happy Thursday!

Happy Friday!

There are times in life when things always seem to go wrong and you feel like you just might cave in and be defeated. Any of my family, friends, and even some of my close knit clients know that I have been on a serious roller coaster ride this year and the ride just keeps on going. I don’t remember standing in line to ride this mountain and valley track, but someone signed me up with out my permission. I need to have a serious chat with them. But anyhoo…Upon reading my friend Carla’s blog today, her entry really hit home, and I felt it necessary to post about how important it is to remain focused on the meaning of life and how to overcome obstacles that are thrown at us, and the bumps in the road that we experience along the way. Life presents you with challenging situations and it really is how we approach them that makes all the difference. So although this may sound really cliche and cheesey…I think this one little statement could make all the difference in how you live your life. I can’t take the credit for thinking it up. I am just not that smart when it comes to making up certain things…but I am smart enough to believe in them…
So the next time life seems like it is working against you and that everything seems to be falling apart try to tell yourself that there is a positive in it. Think the following and you just may find a bit of peace and strength in yourself…which can carry you through the toughest terrains…

”THERE IS AN ADVANTAGE IN THIS…I WILL FIND IT OR MAKE IT”

and there is also the FIVE BALL THEORY:
There are 4 GLASS BALLS & 1 RUBBER BALL the 4 Glass Balls represents FAMILY, FRIENDS, HEALTH, SPIRIT and the RUBBER BALL represents JOB.
In life we keep on juggling these balls ……. and the life continues……. A small mistake and any of these balls might fall …… if the rubber ball falls it would bounce back…… No matter in what time it would bounce back … 1 month … 3 months… 6 months, but it would definitely bounce back…..But the Glass Ball….. Very delicate…. once it falls….. It can never be brought to its original shape again….
So on that note…
I hope you all have a Happy Friday and live life to its fullest!!!

Amy and David: Engaged!

This is Amy and David! They are the cutest couple and I thought when I first met with Amy about shooting her wedding that we may be meeting for other reasons as well. I had sensed that Amy and I would have more to talk about other than her wedding photography before I even met her. And sure enough we did! Strange I know, but very true! So at our intial meeting when she viewed my work we also snuck in a little therapy session as well! Two for the price of one! So I was really excited to hear from her when she was ready to book with me for their wedding on July 12th. I love shooting people and especially with those that I connect with! They are a real genuine couple and I am so happy for them to have found each other! We did their session at Elizabeth park in Hartford and we got rained on but made the best of it!

so here ya go…

we snuck inside the Pond House at the Park and kicked a very nice man out of his seat to grab this shot…my favorite from the shoot just for that reason…and even though I don’t think that very nice man will ever see the picture posted on this here blog…I thank him!

So I wil be shooting Amy and David again this Saturday at their wedding and I am really looking forward to it!

Enjoy and once again…Happy Thursday!

Susana and Peter: Married June 28, 2008

Susana and Peter got married a couple weeks ago in Fairfield CT and had their reception at the Waterview in Monroe! I was honored to be able to document their day for them and I walked away with some great keepers! It was a very small and intimate affair with under 80 guests…and you could feel the love in the air! I wish them the best of luck and hope they enjoy their photographs to help them remember their wedding day!

Here are a bunch of my favorites…

some getting ready stuff:

God knows I love shoes… so there are two shots because I couldn’t decide which I liked better…

This is Peter…he patiently waited in the wings for Susana’s arrival at the Church, whom showed up fashionably late!

Susana was such an elegant bride!

this little girl was too darn cute so I had to post this pic! (not to mention it is with my favorite kind of lighting…window)

and their first dance…

So congrats to Susana and Peter for finding each other and tying the knot!

Can’t wait to share the rest with you both!

Happy Thursday!
